KyungA Cho
Founder and CEO
Dr. Cho found MediSpan with a mission to develop innovative drugs that targets the fundamental aging problems to extend a healthy lifespan and treat aging-related chronic diseases. Her research on aging started by studying the mechanism of cellular senescence as a doctoral course at Seoul National University College of Medicine in the Republic of Korea.
She suggested a membrane-gate theory of cellular senescence, the change in function according to the change in signal transduction of senescent cells using caveolin-1, a membrane protein. Her study later expanded to geriatric diseases that target aging-related functional decline. Starting as an assistant professor at Chonnam National University Medical School, she began new research on aging and diseases. She proved the main reason for increased susceptibility to external pathogen infection and studied immunosenescence to protect the senile diseases, including infectious or chronic inflammatory diseases. She has over 20 years of experience understanding aging and started MediSpan developing drugs that can be applied to the human body to extend healthy life and various disease treatments.
Dr. Cho is the chief of the Finance Committee of the Korean Society for Gerontology and plays as a member of various related societies. She got UNESCO-L'ORAL Fellowships for Young Women in Life Sciences and the Best Investigator Award at the 7th Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS).
